LFHRI asked Punjab Govt. to identify dead bodies of victims of violence throughout Punjab.

The Lawyers For Human Rights International sent a representation to the Chief Minister of Punjab,India seeking identification of the unclaimed dead bodies which were cremated in whole of State of Punjab from 1984 to 1994 on the lines of NHRC recent judgment and seeking payment of compensation to the victim families who have till today not been able to perform the last rites of their near ones and have been killed / missing at the hands of Punjab police officials or para-military security forces in districts other than Amritsar, Tarn Taran and Majitha.

LFHRI has withdrawn its petitions in the Supreme Court as the hanging has already been stayed.

Lawyers For Human Rights International has withdrawn today its petitions in the Supreme Court of India through which it had sought relief for Balwant Singh Rajoana, as the Home Ministry has already stayed the execution during the pendency of the appeals pending in the Supreme Court of India and the Mercy petitions filed by SGPC and DSGPC before the President of India. Another petition related to the same matter has been dismissed today by the Supreme Court of India. The petitions have been filed by the LFHRI on Monday as the convict Balwant Singh Rajoana has to be executed on 31st of March, 2012.

Orders of High Court denying the stay in execution of Death Warrants Challenged in Supreme Court.

LFHRI has challenged in Supreme Court Of India,the order passed by High Court, denying stay in executing of Death Warrants of Balwant Singh Rajoana, during the pendency of proceedings in the SC,where in the judgment vide which death Sentence of Balwant singh has been upheld and conversion of life imprisonment of Jagtar Singh has been challenged by the CBI. The case will be listed tomorrow or day after tomorrow.

The Lawyers For Human Rights International (LFHRI) seeks intervention of President of India in stopping the execution of Balwant Singh Rajoana detained in Patiala Jail. In a letter written to the President of India, Navkiran Singh General Secretary of NGO, LFHRI said that the judgement vide which the death sentence of Balwant Singh has been confirmed is under appeal before the Supreme Court of India. He also said that in India no one has been executed since 2004 and the India though one of the retentionist country’s uses Death Penalty only in rarest of rare cases and can join the line of 140 Nations which have done away with the death Penalty in Law or Practice.

A Public Interest Litigation filed by NGO Lawyers For Human Rights International seeking stay on execution of Balwant Singh Rajoana was dismissed by Punjab and Haryana High Court on the ground that the petitioner had no 'locas standi' to file the petition. Notice Issued To Punjab On Wire Mesh Barricades in canals

On a petition filed by Lawyers For human Rights International, the Punjab and Haryana High Court issued a notice to State of Punjab regarding installation of wire mesh bariicates at various places in canals of Punjab so that the dead bodies of humans can be fished out so that the relatives of the deseased can perform last rites.

In a petition filed by LFHRI, High court had given deadline to arrest Ex. DSP of Punjab police.
