In an urgent petition filed by Dharampal Singh of Haryana State through a renouned human rights lawyer Navkiran Singh, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has stayed the hanging of Dharampal Singh untill April,10. The Mercy petition of Dharampal Singh was rejected recently by the President of India. He was to be hanged on April, 15 as per the newspaper reports. He was shifted from Rohtak Jail to Ambala Jail in a government vehicle under tight security yesterday as there is no hanging facility in Rohtak Jail.

Lawyers For Human Rights International in a meeting held at Chandigarh condemned the incident of thrashing a victim of sexual harasshment and her father by Punjab Police at Tarn Taran, Punjab and passed resolution demanding strict action and registring of F.I.R. against the policemen involved in the incident under Indian Penal Code. In a shocking case of police brutality,policemen thrashed a victim and her father instead of helping them.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court issued notice to Punjab Govt., CBI, SSP Gurdaspur and others on a public Interest Litigation filed by Lawyers For Human Rights International (LFHRI) seeking CBI inquiry into incident of police firing at Gurdaspur in which a youth Jaspal Singh was killed and another youth Ranjit Singh was seriously injured.

Lawyers For Human Rights International has withdrawn today its petitions in the Supreme Court of India through which it had sought relief for Balwant Singh Rajoana, as the Home Ministry has already stayed the execution during the pendency of the appeals pending in the Supreme Court of India and the Mercy petitions filed by SGPC and DSGPC before the President of India. Another petition related to the same matter has been dismissed today by the Supreme Court of India. The petitions have been filed by the LFHRI through its District president Chandigarh, Tejinder Singh Sudan, Advocate on Monday as the convict Balwant Singh Rajoana has to be executed on 31st of March, 2012.

A Public Interest Litigation filed by NGO Lawyers For Human Rights International seeking stay on execution of Balwant Singh Rajoana was dismissed by Punjab and Haryana High Court on the ground that the petitioner had no 'locas standi' to file the petition. The division bench said Rajoana had already refused to appear before the high court in 'murder reference' and also declined assistance of a counsel to defend himself on government expenses...

The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday had given a deadline till September 22 to Punjab Police to arrest Gurjit Singh. The directions were passed on a petition filed by the Lawyers for Human Rights International (LFHRI) through its General Secretary, Advocate Navkiran Singh.

In a Public Interest Litigation filed filed by Lawyers For Human Rights International alleging that two Punjab residents (Indians) are languishing in a Pakistani jail even after completing their sentenses, the Punjab and Haryana high Court issued a notice to the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India and Punjab Government. The respondents have been directed to provide replies within a month.

Lawyers for Human Rights International has sent its suggestions to Hon'ble Retd. Justice J.S. Verma who is heading the three member committee constituted by Government of India to give recommendations on amending laws to provide speedier justice and enhanced punishment in sexual assualt cases. The committee was constituted after public protests erupted over Delhi gang rape case. The committee headed by former Chief Justice of India JS Verma sought comments from the public in general, particularly eminent jurists, legal professionals, NGOs, women's groups and civil society members on reviewing the existing laws in a bid to provide quicker justice and stringent punishment in cases of aggravated sexual assault, an official statement said.

The Lawyers For Human Rights International sent a representation to the Chief Minister of Punjab,India seeking identification of the unclaimed dead bodies which were cremated in whole of State of Punjab from 1984 to 1994 on the lines of NHRC recent judgment and seeking payment of compensation to the victim families who have till today not been able to perform the last rites of their near ones and have been killed / missing at the hands of Punjab police officials or para-military security forces in districts other than Amritsar, Tarn Taran and Majitha.

LFHRI has challenged in Supreme Court Of India,the order passed by High Court, denying stay in executing of Death Warrants of Balwant Singh Rajoana, during the pendency of proceedings in the SC,where in the judgment vide which death Sentence of Balwant singh has been upheld and conversion of life imprisonment of Jagtar Singh has been challenged by the CBI. The case will be listed tomorrow or day after tomorrow.

The Lawyers For Human Rights International (LFHRI) seeks intervention of President of India in stopping the execution of Balwant Singh Rajoana detained in Patiala Jail. In a letter written to the President of India, Navkiran Singh General Secretary of NGO, LFHRI said that the judgement vide which the death sentence of Balwant Singh has been confirmed is under appeal before the Supreme Court of India. He also said that in India no one has been executed since 2004 and the India though one of the retentionist country’s uses Death Penalty only in rarest of rare cases and can join the line of 140 Nations which have done away with the death Penalty in Law or Practice.

An enquiry is marked to the Session Judge, Amritsar by the Punjab and Haryana High Court into the torture of Kulwinder Singh by Punjab Police on a Public Interest Petition filed by Lawyers For Human Rights International through its lawyer Navkiran Singh The kidneys of Kulwinder Singh were damaged due to the torture and his feet was also fractured.
