An enquiry is marked to the Session Judge, Amritsar by the Punjab and Haryana High Court into the torture of Kulwinder Singh by Punjab Police on a Public Interest Petition filed by Lawyers For Human Rights International through its lawyer Navkiran Singh The kidneys of Kulwinder Singh were damaged due to the torture and his feet was also fractured.

The Punjab and Haryana High court has orded an enquiry by Session Judge Karnal into the irrelagularities and human rights violations being committed by the jail staff and also directed all District and Session Judges of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh to conduct surprise raids every month in the districts jails, under their jurisdiction.The directions were passes on a public interest litigation, filed by Lawyers For Human Rights International through its member Sanjeev Banga Advocate. Renouned human rights lawyer Navkiran Singh who appeared for the NGO had alleged that the conditions in Karnal jail was extremely deplorable and that no complaint of jail inmates were being entertained by the jail authorities.

Pakistani School boy Nuaman Arshad, 9th class student of Lahore school is ordered to be sent back to Pakistan after giving him warning by the Juvenile Justice Board, Amritsar. He was arrested by BSF on 12.01.2010 at Attari Border and a case under Foreigners Act was registered against him. His case was taken up by Lawyers For Human Rights International after reading a news item in the Newspapers. His case was first highlighted by the Newspaper "The Hindu".

On a petition filed by Lawyers For Human Rights International, the Punjab and Haryana High Court granted a compensation of Rs. 3,00,000/- at the present juncture to the parents of deseased Ved Pal who was killed by the mob at Village-Singhwal, District Jind, Haryana, in spite of order of protection given by the High court. He had reached at his In-laws house alongwith Warrants Officer accompanying by 20 Police officials to recover his newly wedded wife and lynched by the mob.

The United Sikhs, a coalition of orgnisations and individuals bases in U.K. urged the people to attend a protest against death penalty at Prime minister's resident, 10 Downing Street, London on 16th of May, 2010 from 1.00 to 4.00 P.M. The protest was announced after an NGO Lawyers For Human Rights International from India released a report on death penalty awarded to 17 people by a court at Sharjah in U.A.E.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court issued a notice to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and Indian Consulate at U.A.E. on a Public Interest Litigation(PIL) filed by Lawyers For Human Rights International, to explain to the court why MEA has failed to protect Indian Citizens abroad and how to make the system effective, so that no Indian is tortured and is denied fair trial abroad. The PIL is filed after a delegation of LFHRI met 17 Indians in Sharjah jail on 14.04.2010, who have been given death penalty by Sharjah court of U.A.E. The High court served the govt.counsel in the court itself and fixed the matter for reply on 27.05.2010. Copy of the petition is as under:-

A Sikh youth Kulwant Singh suffered renal failure due to third degree torture by the Punjab Police. He was denied medical aid during custody and his mother and brother were not even allowed to meet him. His both kidneys are damaged due to the electric shocks. Lawyers For Human Rights International through Navkiran Singh, Advocate filed a Public Interest Litigation in the Punjab and Haryana High Court for judicial enquiry into the abduction and torture of Kulwant Singh in illegal and legal custody and for giving him best medical help and also compensation to his family The High Court issued a notice and directed the State of punjab to permit the mother and brother to have access to him in hospital......

Lawyers For Human Rights International condemned the illegal detention of Pal Singh of France by Punjab Police and apprehends that he can be implicated in false cases. On the one hand the Punjab Government is talking about the deletion of names of overseas Sikhs from the blacklist and on the other hand, the Punjab Government is terrorizing the Non Resident Indians (NRIs) who wants to come India. Pal Singh of France who was the first one who raised the issue of ban of Turban in France.

The World Coalition Against Death Penalty expressed its concerns as to the use of death penalty in UAE. In a letter to the United Arab Emirates Justice Minister the World Coalition criticised the recent criminal investigation of the 17 Indian nationals sentenced to death for a murder of a Pakistani man arguing that they"constitute gross violation of international standareds of due process of capital punishment cases".
